Coaching for and Editing a Book Proposal and Sample Chapters
If you’re looking to start an academic book project, this is the package for you! Through a sequence of effective coaching meetings and activities, we can produce a compelling book proposal that will catch a university press editor’s eye. Then I give your proposal and sample chapters (at minimum, the introduction and one “body” chapter) an additional polish with line and developmental edits.
Although I can help with most types of book proposals, I enjoy working on “dissertation to book” conversion projects or book proposals in the early stages of development—so it’s fine if you just have an idea and a few drafted chapters!
Four hour-long coaching meetings are included in this package, to be scheduled at the clients’ convenience. In these meetings we will discuss targeting a press, the components of a book proposal, and how to communicate with university press editors
Line edits include one pass on up to a 8000-word proposal and 25,000-word sample chapters (not including references), delivered in Microsoft Word format
Developmental feedback includes at least 1000 words of developmental feedback to improve your proposal and sample chapters’ argument, story, structure, and tone
Manuscripts must be content complete, free of “notes to self,” and written in American or British English
This service does not include editing references, conversion from one style to another (e.g., APA to CMOS), indexing, or other additional services
Additional information about your concerns and goals for the manuscript will be collected in an intake survey at time of payment
Timeline for delivery is subject to editor’s current working schedule and client’s availability; a typical timeline for completing a book proposal is 2–3 months
